Riviera Amateur Radio club is one year old. The club’s inaugural meeting was held on 2nd January 2012. In the first year, the club has grown from around a dozen members to three times that amount. We alternated weekly get togethers between club meetings and outdoor meetings. We registered two club callsigns. We operated three special event stations, half a dozen radio events including RAFARS‘ Airfields on the Air, Railways on the Air, Torbay Steam Fair and supported the RNLI and the Sarah Jayne Fund. We assisted our local Sea Scouts in getting their communicators badge and club members volunteered with RAYNET to assist with communications for Newton Abbot Carnival and Rowcroft Sleep Walk. When we get the chance, we go up onto Dartmoor National Park and operate from there. We’ve made contact with about 30 different countries in the first year, though we hope to improve that number soon. But we still drink tea and eat biscuits. It’s been a fantastic 1st year. Thank you to all those who made it possible!
2013 is going to be a busy and exciting 2nd year for Riviera ARC. We have a new club venue and lots of activities planned. See you and hear you on air soon!
